NUTRITION & WELLNESS
They say 2019 is the year of Vegans.
Today’s Vegan is not the 1970’s vegetarian. If you remember the vegetarian of years past you are probably at the age where you’re starting to be concerned about cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Today we are more aware of the dangers of eating processed foods, pastries, cereals, hot dogs, etc. Yes vegetarians and Vegans can be unhealthy eaters, replacing animal products, meats, dairy, eggs, with foods that are full of sugar, salt and fat. That’s because we still crave the sugar salt and oil.
Many processed foods contain high amounts of salt, oils, and sugar (SOS), which contribute to hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes. One of the most challenging aspects of nutrition is understanding what is actually in the package “ingredients” and what it means. We teach you why you like or crave the foods you do, and how to replace those unhealthy foods with real food. One of our recommendations is to adopt a whole foods, plant-based diet that prioritizes eating whole or unprocessed plant foods, minimizes meats, fish, dairy products, and eggs, and eliminates highly processed foods and fats. Whole foods are nutrient dense, satisfying, and naturally low in calories.
Many foods today contain harmful additives, antibiotics, or pesticides, or are nutrient-poor. Is GMO safe? Should I buy all organic foods or just a select few? And what products in my home are toxic and how can I replace them with a safer alternative? These are some of the most common questions I get from my clients.
Scientific studies show over and over again that reducing these unhealthy foods can stop progression of disease and in some cases even reverse them.
